Paimio 41 – easy chair by Alvar Aalto – Artek – Code 1397
Paimio 41, also known as the “Paimio chair”.
This chair is a true icon of Finnish design.
It was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1931 for the project of the Paimio Sanatorium (Finland), one of the most significant architectural works of the architect Alvar Aalto (1929- 1933). The furniture made for this project was designed for both functional and aesthetic aspects.
The Paimio Chair was intended for patient rest, and at the same time functional for cleaning and hygiene after use.
It consists of two continuous elements of steam-curved birch laminate, which form the frame and armrests, to which the seat is attached, made of a thin, sinuous and elegant sheet – made of black lacquered plywood.
